Windows of Bodie

Bodie State Park is a well-preserved ghost town nestled in the beautiful but harsh environment of the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains, close to the Nevada border in the north-eastern part of California. It was an unexpected and welcomed detour as I travelled for another project. I spent most of the day there as I was pulled into the history and visual interest of the landscape. Bodie is a well-documented and photographed place internally and externally, but what struck me most were the windows of the buildings. The old and sometimes textured glass offered a portal into the eerily preserved scenes of other’s lives from the early 20th century. I photographed through the windows into the buildings, through the dirt, cracks, and glass irregularities. While limiting in ways to photograph the scene, it offered a fitting perspective of the external and internal into one image.
